What Is Medicare Advantage Plan?
Medicare Advantage Plans in Texas give you another way to receive your Medicare benefits. Private insurance companies contract with Medicare and provide your Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) coverage through one plan. Instead of Medicare paying your doctors directly, it pays the insurance company each month to manage your benefits.
When you join a Medicare Advantage plan, you pay copays for covered services. Copays are fixed amounts you pay when you receive care, unlike the 20% coinsurance you pay under Original Medicare for Part B services. Each Medicare Advantage plan also sets a yearly maximum out-of-pocket limit, which caps how much you’ll spend on covered medical costs in a calendar year.

FAQ's
Which Carrier Should I Choose?
You can choose from several insurance carriers that offer Medicare Advantage Plans in Texas. Each carrier designs its own plans with different features, provider networks, and service areas. Because plan options vary by county, a Medicare Advantage plan available in San Antonio may differ from one in McAllen, Dallas–Fort Worth, or Waco.
Working with a licensed local agent can help you review the plans available in your area and understand how each one works. Local agents stay familiar with Texas counties and plan service areas, so they can help you compare options and find coverage that fits your needs.

Do Plans Differ Based On Where I Live?
How Are Medicare Advantage Plans Rated?
Medicare Advantage Plans in Texas receive Star Ratings from Medicare each year. These ratings measure how well each plan performs in several categories, including member satisfaction, customer service, and the quality of care provided. Medicare gathers this information from surveys, plan reports, and health care providers to assign each plan a score from 1 to 5 stars.
A 5-star rating means Medicare found the plan performed very well in the measured categories, while a 1-star ratingindicates the plan performed lower on those measures. These ratings help you compare plans based on quality and performance, but they can change each year. Medicare updates Star Ratings every fall for the following year.
You can review current ratings and learn more by visiting Medicare.gov.
TMS Insurance Brokerage, Inc. (Texas Medicare Solutions) is a licensed insurance agency and is not connected with or endorsed by the U.S. Government or the Federal Medicare program. Our licensed agents are compensated based on your enrollment in a plan.
Can I Choose My Own Doctors on a Medicare Advantage Plan?
Medicare Advantage Plans in Texas include different types of provider networks. The two most common are Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans. Each type has its own rules for how you receive care and which doctors you can see.
HMO Plans:
With an HMO, you select a Primary Care Provider (PCP) from the plan’s network. Your PCP coordinates your care and provides referrals if you need to see a specialist within the network. In most cases, you must use in-network providers for the plan to cover your services, except in emergencies.
PPO Plans:
With a PPO, you can see any provider in the plan’s network without a referral. You may also see providers outside the network, but you’ll generally pay more for those visits.
If you prefer to see any doctor who accepts Medicare, you can also explore Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap), which works differently from Medicare Advantage. Learn more about Medicare Supplement plans.
What is a Special Needs Plan?
A Special Needs Plan (SNP) is a type of Medicare Advantage Plan in Texas that serves people with specific health conditions, certain care needs, or limited incomes. These plans are designed to coordinate care and provide benefits that match the needs of the groups they serve.
There are several kinds of SNPs, including:
Chronic Condition SNPs (C-SNPs) for individuals with certain chronic health conditions,
Dual Eligible SNPs (D-SNPs) for people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, and
Institutional SNPs (I-SNPs) for individuals who live in certain care facilities or need similar levels of care at home.
If you think you might qualify for a Special Needs Plan, you can speak with a licensed local Medicare agent. They can review eligibility requirements and help you understand which plans are available in your area.
